Attention all pillow hoarders

Serena and Lily has the best sales, and right now they have quite a few pillows you must order immediately!! All of these are $18.99:

I'm a girl who loves color, but after seeing pictures of Monika Hibbs'  living room (the rest of her house is absolutely stunning too), I could totally jump on the neutral bandwagon. All three of the neutral pillows above would help to create a very similar look on the cheap:

Black and white (and gold!) is also tres chic right now, as you can see in the room below. I love how it's both masculine and feminine. A win-win!

While purple isn't my favorite color, radiant orchid is the Pantone color of the year, so give it a try with the aubergine pillow. It's close enough ;) Here are some pretty purple rooms even I can get behind:

Have I justified you ordering every pillow yet?! I know, I know, I'm a total enabler. You'll thank me though when your friends are dying over your spruced up and swanky looking casa. And all for less than $100. Three cheers for pillows!!!

Powder room update

I shared a little bit of our powder room here, but realized I never shared any before pics. It's nothing too exciting, but here she is:

The day we closed, we were at Lowe's spending way too much money on garbage bags, mops, brooms and various cleaning supplies (why is it sooo expensive every single move?!). I spotted a carrara marble vanity top (pictured above) that was a special order return marked from $600 to $250. While we LOVED it, we both thought the price was still too high so asked to speak to a manager. My salesman husband pulled out all the stops, but they absolutely would not budge on the price. Sam and I were both a little bummed, but we agreed it was too expensive, considering a vanity base for it wouldn't exactly be cheap.

Fast forward several weeks, we're at Lowe's again, and I spot that glorious marble top in the same spot (obviously- that sucker isn't exactly light). This time it's marked down to $100- the exact price we wanted to pay. Sldkfjdlfj!! High-fiving ensued, even though we had no idea where we were going to put it. We knew we had 2 bathrooms to completely renovate though--I'll have to post pics of the 2nd floor bathroom soon so you can see it in it's 90's glory-- so we'd find a place for it. Originally, we thought we wanted to go with this Martha Stewart vanity for the powder room, but in the end opted for Martha Stewart cabinetry from Home Depot to fit the super clearanced top. For just a little more money, we're getting a fairly large vanity with a solid surface top. I will never say no to more concealed storage. Never. The lesson here: look for special order return items. Typically, the price is negotiable (and if not, wait it out, cause chances are pretty good you'll get it).

When I left off way back in February, we'd ripped up the floor. In March, Sam's dad, Tom, drove up with my brother-in-law Phil's fancy tile saw. They decided to do a dry fit first, so the majority of the weekend was spent getting everything cut and laid in place. Finally finally finally in April, we had a free weekend to put down the underlayment and lay the tile (again with my father-in-law's help).

We decided to go with the Schluter Ditra underlayment instead of traditional Durock cement board. Even though it was quite a bit pricier, it was easier to cut and not messy at all. Plus, knowing that we won't ever have to replace cracked tiles in here is worth its weight in gold.

We still need to seal and grout the tile, sand and repaint the trim, and add shoe moulding, but those are fairly easy in comparison to laying a herringbone floor. I am beyond thrilled with the way it turned out, and cannot wait to start putting the room together. Sounds like that'll be May. Hey Tom, wanna drive up to Minnesota again?! ;)

Monogram it!

The inner prepster in me loooooooves a monogram, as evidenced by my Max and Chloe necklace (that you can hardly see- sorry!) below:

I first ordered it after seeing the oh-so-fabulous Blair Eadie pairing it with nearly everything, and thus began my obsession. Monograms are super classic, very personal (I actually got my necklace in Isla's initials), and really chic. As Isaac Mizrahi once said "A monogram makes something your own and endows it with weight in a world full of random things." I couldn't agree more.

A few weeks ago, I came across this image on Pinterest, and decided I needed a monogrammed LL Bean boat and tote.  It'll be perfect for our upcoming trip to Florida, and I plan on cramming all of mine and Isla's clothes in it (since I'm too cheap to pay to carry on a bag). Wish me luck! Now if only I looked as hip carrying it as she does...

Monogramming isn't just for jewelry and clothing though. I especially love it on bedding, and recently ordered a pair of monogrammed shams from to adorn. They were only $12 (they're just screen printed), but look nice in person and pictures. I remove the pair at night, so hopefully they won't get really dirty and need constant washing (which I'm afraid will ruin the screen printing). I'll keep you posted. Someday, I'd love to splurge on a duvet and shams from Garnet Hill, but for now these really spruce up the bedroom. More plans are in the works for this space, but I'm really digging the way it's coming together.

I was inspired by this room, especially since we already installed bamboo blinds and hung Audubon prints above our bed. It's coastal and relaxing, which is just what I want to retire to at the end of the day.

If you're still not totally sold on monogrammed bedding, check out these amazing spaces:

Are you ready to monogram everything now? You know I am!

Isla's 1st birthday

That last post got me kind of excited about having a party, and then I remembered I've got one to plan. Isla turns 2 on June 4, and while I've bought a few things here and there, I've still got lots to do. Let's not focus on that right now, but rather take a look at pictures from her first birthday, since I never posted any of them. We did a mini celebration on her actual birthday, before the party:

We had literally just moved into our house, so I had to work hard to keep all the boxes and clutter out of these pictures. It was quite the challenge since there was stuff EVERYWHERE. I found the garland on super clearance at Target that day, and the peonies too. Once again, Target to the rescue!

And now for the real party, although it's pretty simple compared to most of the ones I've seen on onto baby (which are, for the most part, fancier than my actual wedding). Still, I thought everyone had fun, the food was good, Isla looked adorable in her Janie and Jack romper, and we narrowly missed a huge rainstorm so were able to have it outside as planned. Get ready for picture overload, but how cute does my little bald baby look?!

Can't believe this little peanut will be 2 soon. Sniffle. Now excuse me- I've got some ginormous gold mylar balloons to order.

Oh Joy!

Have you seen the Oh Joy! for Target party line yet? I am pretty smitten with every last item, and think the colors are so perfect for Spring--and Easter too! So if you're having guests over on Sunday, I'd run out to Target and scoop up a few of these super cute and affordable pieces (like you really need an excuse to go to Target). "My" Target--does anyone else call the one they frequent the most as their own, or am I the only one?-- is out of almost everything, so a trip to the 'burbs is definitely in order. I'd honestly plan a party around this, I think it's so cute. Here are some of my favorites (view the entire collection here):

And a few shots from the launch party. I. Want. Everything. Don't you?? Maybe they'll clearance it out, but since it's flying off the shelves I doubt it.

I also recently discovered that Joy Cho has a line of bedding and art for Land of Nod. While the bedding is cute and fun, I'm really drawn to the art. I think I need to get this piece for Isla's room. It would look perfect with her pale pink (and bare) walls:

Digging this pineapple print too:

At $20 each, you can't beat it. You can view the entire collection here. It's nice to see bloggers getting
some recognition. Kudos to you, Joy! I love it all!
